Morgan Madness

Here in the showroom we often deal in pairs. We'll see Porsches, BMWs MGs and classics of every sort roll into our doors, often with a buddy. Recently, an English trio has rolled through. One recently sold, one is up for sale, and a third hanging around in the shop. Today, we'll cover this unique brand and some of its history. Join us for Morgan Mayhem!

A few months back, a Morgan Plus 4 in Connaught Green came to the showroom. This example was a no-expense-spared restoration that took a couple of years. By the time the restoration was completed, the owner never got to enjoy the car. That meant this fresh Morgan was ready to show a new caretaker the joys of classic English motoring. We used it as an opportunity to better familiarize ourselves with the Morgan and some of its unique design features. Including that wood frame and the unique flat-style carburetors. Now that we're caught up on this car, let's look back at the Morgan brand.

Morgan first began production of cars in the early 1910s, when H.F.S. Morgan began building cars for his own personal use. In 1911, he began production on his three-wheeled designs which became quite popular. By the First World War, Morgan had produced nearly 1000 models of the three-wheeler with a few different trim levels.

As the Plus 4 hung around the showroom, one of our loyal clients came by with his own Morgan. He had owned a couple Plus 4 models in the past, but as he got older, he moved more into the more "modern" examples like the Plus 8 we sold a couple of years ago. Now he's moved on yet again to the latest and greatest from the woodworkers and craftsmen back in the U.K.

The timing is lining up! As the Plus 4 heads off to a new home, this Plus 8 is moving into the showroom for the very same treatment! We've given it an extensive detailing and cleanup and now the Plus 8 is ready for a new caretaker. You may be asking yourself, if this gentleman just bought the Plus 8 a few years ago, how is he already moving out of it? Because he's picked up a 2020 Morgan Roadster!

He has certainly been bitten by the Morgan bug. Now that he's owned a handful of these oddballs he even took a trip out to see the factory in England just before picking up the new Roadster. This visit gave him a chance to better understand the history of his favorite brand and allowed him to get some eyes on a few different examples of the Roadster before he found one that was right for him. He talked fondly of walking through the woodshop and getting to see some of these modern classics come to life. One big draw for our Morgan enthusiast? Air Conditioning! The old Plus 8 didn't have A/C but this new 2020 Roadster offers quite a few more creature comforts thanks to over 20 years of development.

Now that we've shipped the Plus 4 off to a new home near Colorado Springs and sent our Morgan enthusiast on his merry way after a Roadster detail, we just have the red Plus 8 still hanging around the showroom. If you're interested in this Plus 8 we invite you to come by the showroom to check it out! If you're out of state or country we're also happy to have a trusted friend or family member stop by to learn a bit more about the car and get you those first-hand insights. Always best to get a trusted pair of eyes on the car! Thanks for joining us today! Be sure to check in next week as we highlight our Porsche 912 Electric as it gets ready for its own turn in the showroom. If you'd like to learn more or have questions about our restoration work be sure to send an email to info@farlandcars.com. Thanks!
