Believed to be a two-owner US-delivery car—present owner has had it for 27 years—and it was originally built in Signal Red with Black MBTex. Fitted new with manual transmission, factory hardtop, power steering, Becker Europa radio and black convertible top. The car benefitted from fresh paint years ago that still looks show-quality today, with no evidence of past or present rust issues. (Both front fenders have their correct spot welds). With just 98K miles, the car is mechanically solid, has no issues and runs & drives great! Paint code assures it was originally red and not a 1980s color change, like happened to so many SLs.
Demonstrated with copious service records, the car has had very diligent care by Mercedes specialists and would easily pass any knowledgeable pre-purchase inspection. Recent suspension work and new master cylinder, tires and battery, plus ignition tune up with distributor cap, wires & plugs. The quiet, tight engine shows strong oil pressure when warm and the temp stays in normal range in city traffic.
It’s important to remember that 230s have exactly the same horsepower and 0-60 times as a 280 when both fitted with the manual 4-speed transmission, making the much more rare 230SL a crafty collector’s choice. The car retains its original owner’s manuals, trunk tool kit and the original Becker radio. Even the ashtray is unused!
