1956 190SL, model W121; Outstanding example with a recently completed professional restoration. Twenty-five years ago it was a very solid, decent car in good driver condition when the former owner decided to commission a restoration. At the time, many OEM parts for 190s were still readily available from M-B and he accumulated everything he would need, including new chrome, bumpers, and many other trim pieces that are now unobtainable. As often happens, life and family activities took precedence and the project stretched into many years.
Fortunately, resources allowed professionals to step in and were engaged to finish the job. The paint was expertly done to a very high standard and the entire interior was reupholstered with all new cherry-red material. (It has the early 300SL-style vented-back seats). A new Haartz cloth top finishes off this beautiful car. Brought to Farland Classic Restoration last year to have the engine and running gear restored, we were the final part of the restoration. We had the engine and transmission rebuilt by a 190 specialist, refreshed all the suspension and brakes and carefully went through the car’s operations. This was recently completed and has resulted in a beautiful presentation that would easily be in the top tier at any M-B showing. The car has been properly tuned and runs great with its original Solex carburetors. Also included is its factory hardtop (also refinished), shop manual and owner’s guide. Even the original spare tire still resides in the fully detailed trunk.
A turn-key-to-concours-lawn 190SL available for less than the restoration cost! (Please be aware that running-but-rough 190s needing full restorations are currently trading for about $70K, making this car quite a bargain)
Sale Price: $149,900.
