Description

The TF was the last model of the seminal flared-fender MG roadster series that helped create America's enthusiasm for imported sports cars, along with Jaguar's XK120 and the 4-cylinder Austin Healey. The TF was the last model of the seminal flared-fender MG roadster series that helped create America's enthusiasm for imported sports cars, along with Jaguar's XK120 and the 4-cylinder Austin Healey. Following the spindly TC model, the tough 1949-'53 TD model alone sold thirty thousand examples and was followed by the more refined TF in 1954. Finally, in 1955 the engine was enlarged to 1500cc and wire wheels added to the rakish styling.

This car was sold new to a lady in Long Beach, CA who kept it 60 years (!) until her passing in 2015 and is now being sold for the second owner, who restored it to a very high level after bringing it home to Colorado. The car had no old damage to rectify and being in SoCal, it had escaped the rust problems so common to vintage English cars. The body was stripped to metal and professionally painted in our shop less than two years ago. Following the paint, new red leather upholstery was installed along with wiring harness, steering rack and other mechanical replacements. The original 48-spoke wheels were replaced with new chrome 60-spoke ones with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. (Originals come with the car, plus a bin of spare parts, manual, all original tools (very rare) & car cover)

The instruments were rebuilt, new knobs, threshold plates and fittings were installed to make the car 'like new.' It runs like a top, with proper oil pressure and no overheating issues. Driving this car is a delightful step back into sports car history and you are back in the 50's completely-analog automotive world. No, you won't cruise the interstates at 80mph, nor out-accelerate someone in a Civic, but instead you'll be enjoying a time warp experience we old guys fondly remember. Few fully-restored collector cars offer as much personality and driving fun for less than $50K these days! Once again, we are offering the opportunity to acquire a fully-restored, ready-to-go car for far less than the restoration cost.

If you are considering one of the classic or collectible cars on our website, be assured that coming for a personal visit to inspect first-hand the car that has captured your fancy is very welcome. We practice transparency in all of our descriptions, but believe that nothing is as convincing as seeing and touching the car yourself. Plan a few hours, so you can see, touch, feel and drive the car, and enjoy a tour of our restoration shops to see 'where the magic happens.' If your schedule is too committed, we also welcome a knowledgeable agent visiting for you. Please understand that sales are final, so the time for all due diligence is before you buy. Our cars are sold AS-IS, since most are on consignment from owners. We follow FTC guidelines for all sales and certainly want our future clients leaving more glowing reports among our reviews!
