The XL was a new addition to Ford’s full-size Galaxie lineup in 1968, aimed at a more performance-oriented buyer and available as either a 2-door fastback or a convertible.
Although the 390 engine was a popular upgrade from the 302 small block, a thundering 4-bbl 428 was chosen by a small number of customers.
Further narrowing 428 convertible production, 290 of those were ordered with the automatic transmission and only 59 were built with the manual 4-speed.
Just 21 had the GT equipment package and ONLY ONE was built in Meadowlark Yellow with the Black bucket seat/console interior—this car!
The car was ordered by someone who apparently wanted performance and was optioned with the 3.25 locking diff, heavy-duty suspension, tachometer, low-restriction exhaust and no power steering.
It was sold new by a SoCal Ford dealer and stayed in California for 38 years before joining a collection in the Midwest.
Fortunately, it avoided any accidents and has been rust free since new.
It was professionally restored to a very high standard a few years ago, plus over $35,000 was invested this year to make it look & run like a new 1968 XL GT convertible.
